The Lemon Tree 2008 Workshop Series

June 7, 2008        Saturday 1-4 pm       Introduction to Vegetarian Cooking

Sara Gifford, natural food chef, first found her culinary passion here in her hometown of Glens Falls, while she attended ACC’s culinary program. Sara continued her education in Manhattan at The Natural Gourmet Institute, a school of health-supportive culinary arts and theory. After graduation she realized she could have the best of both worlds by combining her love for delicious food and nutrition with beautiful high quality ingredients and organic healthy cooking. Shortly after graduation she relocated in Long Beach, NY where she is now a food service manager and head chef of Jandi’s Natural Food Market and Organic Café.

This workshop will introduce vegetarianism on many different levels.  Sara will begin to teach you about the nutrients that you need each day as she recommends healthy animal-friendly ingredients that you can use in cooking.  You will learn some simple tricks as Sara shows you how to prepare delicious and nutritious vegetarian food! Come and learn how to incorporate vegetarian eating into your everyday life in order to benefit your health and that of the planet.

Tobey Gifford, exercise physiologist, yoga therapist & instructor, reiki master and thai bodyworker has many years of experience studying and working with people in various movement, meditation and energy disciplines. Her work has given her a deeper appreciation and understanding of the integration of mind, body and spirit, which she utilizes in her teaching.

Most recently, she has attended the North American Institute of Herbal Medicine in Boulder, where she studied nutrition and herbal medicine in the vitalist tradition of healing.

In this introductory workshop, we will present ways to incorporate herbal remedies into your everyday life in order to improve your health and well-being.  Learn some of the medicinal properties of some local plants as well as the uses of herbs in various cultures.  Each person will be given the opportunity to try a variety of herbal teas and experience a Thai herbal compress.
